What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
An accredited exercise physiologist (or AEP) is a university-trained allied health professional who specialises in how the body responds to activity (or inactivity) in the context of health as well as illness or injury. AEPs are highly skilled in facilitating behaviour change interventions around managing risk factors for chronic disease, as well as delivering education. Being ‘Accredited’ means we are registered with Exercise & Sport Science Australia (ESSA) who are our governing body. To stay accredited we must stay up to date with the latest research, maintain our qualifications with continual study and adhere to a strict code of conduct.
Fundamental root of concern
Whether it be a short-term issue or long term chronic disease, the AEPs at ifitness will assess the fundamental root of the concern, and work with you to provide practical, achievable and evidence based solutions that are meaningful and specific to your goals.
Just some of the conditions we help manage are:
- Diabetes
- Stroke
- Heart attack and heart failure
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Depression and mental health concerns such as schizophrenia
- COPD, Asthma and pulmonary issues
- Cancers
- Neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson’s
- Sleep apnoea
- Obesity
- Balance and falls risks
- Pre and post joint replacement rehabilitation
The list can go on and on.
So why see an AEP?
⁃ Maintain quality of life and continue being able to do activities which you enjoy
⁃ Prevent disease and manage secondary diseases
⁃ Manage conditions and receive education to help develop strategies to help you long term
⁃ Increase muscle strength, balance, and increase heart health
⁃ Reduce risk of falls
When you see our AEPs, you can expect to be included in the decision-making progress about the plan moving forward. We are all different and there is no one size fits all. By having an individual and specific plan that is just right for you, we help to increase motivation and keep you feeling accomplished as you take the steps towards finding your best self.
